Fruitful dinner, bonding over lunch and sunshine at night

  1. While I'm eating at Peppercorn, I notice they urge customers to ask for corporate discounts, so I enquire which company's employees are eligible... apparently, all you have to do is present your I-card and you get a discount of 10% on your bill.. awesome to recieve a discount when you haven't even been looking for one.. and when I ask them for their take-away menu, I am presented with a complementary Pune yellow pages directory, something, which I had been planning to get for sometime... all in all, a fruitful dinner...
  2. Now that I'm getting to know people in the new work place, lunch is getting to be a jolly time...
  3. The day starts off real bad, and I'm expecting it to go further downhill... but at night (after having cribbed the whole day), someone asks me how my day was, and when I'm about to say it sucked, I suddenly realise that apart from the few glitches in the morning, it really wasn't that bad... the thought suddenly restores my good humor and the black cloud that has been hovering over my head all day, is no more..

Is Peppercorn a new place? Remember our rounds at CornClub on Laxmi after/during shopping? I remember all their stuff to date that I mentally ran through their entire menu now - esp peppered corn, and masala corn served in a deep cup... (ha ha I remember their prices too)
Okay, it would be unfair if I don't mention PK-HDFC-corner Cornwala's Corn on the Cob.
My My, Isn't the Co(r)n industry big!!

hey btw...i finished 'Thank You For Smoking' in record time (or should I say no time at all). Dark humour of the kind you'd enjoy. I admit its very filmy, but is extremely funny, fast-paced and oh, what a breezy read it was!

You MUST not miss it. And once you finish it, it's certain to find a theme in your LATB blog :-)

Reading this, I realize that one special feature of the "three beautiful things" approach is that visitors from distant places can build up a picture slowly, sometimes too slowly, of somone else's way of life and the place where they live. I try to picture Peppercorn and its customers. I believe that Pune is a centre of the steel industry. Am I right?

Aparna,
I really miss those shopping expeditions! Esp the ones at Laxmi rd... no one else seems to have that much patience! Now a days I often go shopping all alone, but its still alright, I guess..!
And yeah, I'll try to catch hold of a copy of 'Thank you for Smoking'. Who's the author?

Plutarch,
You're right about the way we try getting a glimpse of the other person's life through these daily scraps of information. Not only is the way of life revealed, but also the person's personality, to some extent..
About Pune, no, it is not a steel centre - that would be Jamshedput... Pune is in the state of Maharashtra, and is traditionally termed as the Oxford of the East, for its learning centres and colleges... and it is now a major industrial as well as IT hub. Here's what Wikipedia has to say about Pune:

'Thank You For Smoking' is written by Christopher Buckley. Funnily, just the day after I read the book, the headline on The New York times shouted "Wall Street Finds a Lot to Like About Tobacco"-- felt a little strange to bump into Miss Coincidence. Anyway, you know I don't support smoking. But who cares about my opinion anyway :-)
